pancreatic endocrine carcinoma

MONDO:0005893

An aggressive, high-grade and poorly differentiated carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation that arises from the pancreas. The mitotic count is more than 20 per 10 HPF. According to the size of the malignant cells, the prominence of the nucleoli, and the amount of cytoplasm, it is classified either as small or large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma.

Disease research snapshot

CureCurrent currently links 2 distinct registered clinical trials to pancreatic endocrine carcinoma through its MONDO disease mappings. 0 of those studies have the registry status “recruiting” (0%). These are registry statuses, not availability guarantees, study results or evidence of effectiveness.

The leading sponsor shown in this linked dataset is National Cancer Institute (NCI), associated with 1 distinct linked trials. This is a count of records, not a ranking of the sponsor's scientific quality.

The highest-count mapped research city in the current result is Ann Arbor, United States. Only site locations available in the published registry projection are counted; some trial sites may be missing or outdated.

Numbers are derived from CureCurrent's current ClinicalTrials.gov projection and conservative MONDO/RxNorm mappings. See sources, counting rules and limitations and verify eligibility or clinical findings with the original study record.

Background context

Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor

Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (PanNETs, PETs, or PNETs), often referred to as "islet cell tumours", or "pancreatic endocrine tumours" are neuroendocrine neoplasms that arise from cells of the endocrine (hormonal) and nervous system within the pancreas. PanNETs are a type of neuroendocrine tumor, representing about one-third of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs). Many PanNETs are benign, while some are malignant. Aggressive PanNET tumors have traditionally been termed "islet cell carcinoma". PanNETs are quite distinct from the usual form of pancreatic cancer, the majority of which are adenocarcinomas, which arise in the exocrine pancreas. Only 1 or 2% of clinically significant pancreas neoplasms are PanNETs.

Background only. Canonical identity remains MONDO; clinical-trial relationships come from ClinicalTrials.gov.

How to interpret this record

CureCurrent links normalized diseases, medicines, registry study labels, sponsors and research sites. A link is not the same as a finding of clinical effectiveness. Our research guides explain how to compare studies, decode RxNorm identities, and avoid over-interpreting site and trial counts. See the published database coverage for mapping completeness.
