Photokeratitis
Photokeratitis is a painful eye condition that results from ultraviolet (UV) exposure. It is similar to a sunburn of the cornea and conjunctiva. The UV source can be either natural (e.g. intense direct or reflected sunlight) or artificial (e.g. the electric arc during welding). Prevention is by wearing eye protection, such as welding goggles, sunglasses, or snow goggles. Treatment is by avoiding further ultraviolet radiation, covering the eyes, and pain medication.
